Outreach Programs

CARH is committed to enhancing the quality of life for local citizens with mental retardation and the elderly in placement. Through our outreach programs we attempt to integrate the community into the lives of these some times over looked individuals. The following unique programs are specifically designed for our clients. Facilities must be registered and as always all programs are free.
Music Therapy Program
Working with professional Music Therapists from Music for Life Therapy, the benefits of music, singing, moving and instrument playing is brought to participants living in residential care facilities and homes. Music strategies are used to elevate mood, encourage appropriate social interactions, divert from inappropriate behaviors and promote exercise. During group sessions, Music Therapists adapt to the unique needs of participants while engaging them in an interactive musical treat. Birthday ProgramBirthday ProgramBirthday Program
Every registered CARH client is remembered on their special day with a birthday card. In addition, several lucky participants are selected monthly to participate in our "Birthday of the Month" with gifts and a birthday party just for them.
Make a Wish Program in Placement, elderly & Handcapped, retarded, mentally challengedWish ProgramWish Program
We try to make "wishes come true" for the elderly living in placement every month. A couple of convalescent or skilled nursing facilities are selected on a monthly basis to participate in our wish program. Participants are asked to make a wish and CARH attempts to make those wishes happen. Whether it be a visit to the hair salon, a favorite food or a special musical performance we love to grant wishes for our special friends.
Craft ProgramCraft ProgramCraft Program
With a friendly and skilled team of CARH craft instructors we go out to over 85 facilities a month. This popular program brings much needed interaction and feelings of achievement for the residents. All materials for these simple, seasonal crafts are provided by CARH.
BingoBingoBingo Program
BINGO is played "CARH style". Everyone wins! Our Bingo experts go on a monthly basis to scheduled convalescent, skilled nursing or adult day care facilities. Every participant has an opportunity to win wonderful prizes and most importantly a chance to socialize with each other.
VCR/DVD Deliveries
With an ever expanding loaning library of VCR/DVD's, CARH provides a pick-up and delivery service twice monthly to registered facilities. Participants select from over 1,000 movies in various categories such as musicals, westerns, travel, drama, etc. There is always something for every ones liking.
Animal Program
This program brings residents of convalescent homes, skilled nursing facilities and activity centers closer to nature by bringing wildlife to them. Scheduled and funded by CARH, and in partnership with Sulphur Creek Nature Center, a wildlife education and rehabilitation center in Hayward, the residents are given the opportunity to pet rabbits, chickens, and other small animals.
Volunteer
There are many volunteer opportunities at CARH. Many of our volunteers do in-home projects such as sewing and knitting homemade items that are then given to our clients as gifts for the holidays. We always need help hosting our many picnics, dances, movies and other monthly events. All of our activities are fun and rewarding for clients and volunteers alike.[More information] [Form]
